The Night Before Christmas” was written in 1822 by Clement C Moore for his children. It was the first record of reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh. The poem is a mix of European legends, Norse mythology and aspects of the story of the Christian Saint Nicholas. Clement named the eight reindeer Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder and Blixen.
